Cook, the Namesake: Frozen Mojitos

Here is my friend Michelle and her recipe of frozen Mojitos.  Maybe next week I'll do my own, but Why reinvent the wheel? ;)

Cook, the Namesake: Frozen Mojitos: These bad boys were a hit two nights in a row!  Friday evening was spent catching up with a dear friend, and somehow an entire bottle ...

Can't Breathe Kosmo

Evening Drinksters! I was in the middle of building my bar outside, and I needed a drink to beat the heat. While perusing through my liquor cabinet, I noticed I've got some cran-raspberry juice. Not exactly Cosmo material, but wouldn't this be a great opportunity to change it up, and bring Mother Russia back in the kitchen.

 Mike's Can't Breathe Kosmo:

1 oz Stoli Raspberry
0.5 oz Triple Sec
0.5 oz Rose's Lime Juice
1 oz Cran-Raspberry Juice.

Blend and strain into cocktail glass.

Sip and Enjoy!

It's called "can't breathe," because of the raspberry flavors...get it?  Rasping...?  Oh fine, I know it's not that funny, but the taste is nothing to joke about either.  Delicious!

Hope you all enjoy!

A New Spin on an Old Favorite: The Godfather

So I spent all day in the city, hoofing it around town, looking for work.  One of my more splendid decisions, because we peaked a Heat Index today of about 110 Fahrenheit, which is, for those of you who care, exactly 43.33 Celsius.  As they say in Italy, "Fuori รจ caldo!"

Anyway, as I got home, I got cleaned up, and I decided I'd watch the Godfather.  I love this movie.  Although I often can not watch the whole thing at once, I do have a serious man crush on a 1972 Al Pacino. Damn, that man is handsome.  Scary as all get out, but handsome none the less.  Honoring, and maybe the progenitor of the dark, quiet, handsome Sicilian immigrant, finding himself in America at the end of the "War to end all wars," trying to make his way for his family, friends, and all the people he feels responsible for in a very quickly changing America.  We start off seeing Michael Corleone in the mid 40s, back home due to a war injury, attending his sister Connie's wedding.  It is this scene where we see the beginning of the life Michael will go on to lead.  Coppola didn't miss a beat in the casting of anyone in this movie, and it's only  shame that it didn't get more recognition until later.

"I'm gonna teach you some respect."
In fairness, I also read the book, which contains the material for the first two movies, and I took a class on this film and others about gangsters and outlaws.  I wont go into a full blown diatribe about this movie or the second one (I pretend GFIII was never made...leave me to my delusions, please,) but I will show you all how to make my own twist on the Godfather drink.  It is basically a 5:3 ratio of Scotch to Amaretto in a rocks glass.  BORING.

Mike's Godfather:

BLEND AND STRAIN THE FOLLOWING INTO AT LEAST SOME ICE, OR WHISKEY STONES:
________________________________________________________________

1.25 oz Chivas Regal      (Unfortunately, "Scotch" whiskey must come from Scotland...Jerks.)

0.5 oz Disaronno Originale Amaretto       (There is no substitute.  Sorry Kyupers, The door is that way --->)

0.25 oz Mike's Homemade Orangecello    (You can buy Orangecello, I will post my Orangecello in the future)

Splash Soda water (optional)

Splash Galliano (optional, see below)

_______________________________________________________________

Pour into a 3 oz or larger Highball glass.

     -  Note: (If you have a big glass, you can add some soda water of you like, but try no more than a splash at first.  Carbonized, but unsweetened grapefruit juice would be better, ONLY if you are using real Orangecello!!!)

After all, since this is about the Godfather:

Garnish with an Orange Wheel.

This is an absolute part of the aesthetic, since delivering an Orange to a man was to inform him that he was about to be offed.  Which you of course know, because you are a serious fan of the movies.

If you can't find or are afraid of the unknown that is Orangecello, you can use 0.25 oz of Bacardi O, and a splash of orange juice.

Sometimes, like if I can't use Orangecello for any  reason, you can splash the Galliano, which is really sweet, but only do this if the drink would otherwise be too bitter.

Arrivederci!

Mike the Bartender

Hello internet!

So as you can see, my name is Mike.  I am a bartender by training, and I will try my best from here on in to put up a new drink everyday, but at least one per week.  Sometimes they will be inspired by something, sometimes I will make changes to a popular drink, and sometimes it will seem totally random.  Here goes.
